This garden evolved slowly over several years and served as a repository for Mitzi's collection of old roses and fragrant plants. The front garden featured a small lawn surrounded by plantings of dogwood, mockorange, hydrangea, camellias, tea olives (Osmanthus fragrans), and roses. Beneath the shrubbery were a variety of perennials and annuals, according to season, chosen for both color and fragrance. There were vines in abundance: true jasmine and star jasmine, Stephan's jasmine, climbing roses, and Mandevilla laxa.

The side yard was planted with the fragrant flowering cherry 'Mt. Fuji' and two climbing single/species roses that were trellised up the side of the house. Beneath were old-fashioned forget-me-nots, snow-in-summer, and petunias or violas, depending on the season.

The back yard was arranged in a four-square design, beds edged in San Francisco cobble, with a sun-dial in the center. The Craftsman tradition (her house is circa 1910) was evident in the rather formal, stone-edged layout, with plants loose and spilling over the edges. The beds were filled with over 100 old fashioned roses. Many were the cold-tender old Tea Roses she learned to love while living in the South.
